Inbox Closes Before Folders Change
The posts in this folder should also be deleted by simply selecting Edit/Select All and then choosing "Delete". Follow this up by repeating the process in the "Deleted Items Folder". What you have to do is delete your news account, compact all folders, and then re-subscribe to your NGs manually (without downloading the list from your news server). It takes a while to set up, but it works perfectly. The whole process is described in detail below. <QUOTE> From: Garry Knight

Option 'compact all folders' fails and loses contents of folder
Finally, click File| Folder| Compact All Folders. This process can take several minutes and you should not attempt to use your computer until it is finished. If an error occurs, such as "cannot compact, folder in use", just close OE, wait a second or two, then re-open OE and begin the process again.

I'm on Win XP Pro OE 6.00.2800.1123 SP1 running IE 6 I've used 'compact all folders' many times without incident. I would go offline and click on Outlook Express folder. I would also close all folders. Now when I do this it fails at 2/3rds of the way into it with a error has occured .. I get a box with a message of

The folders,dbsx is about 713 kb in size. I don't have a search.dbx at all. Note the pattern: Search*.dbx It actually matches numbered files (which you only see by looking in your OE6 Message Store) such as Search Folder (999).dbx I suppose you really wouldn't have any if you never use the Find Message.
